Brain and Development

Brain and developmentThe Leiden Brain and Development lab is located in the Psychology department of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Leiden University, and has a formal collaboration with the department of Psychology at the University of Amsterdam.

Our lab explores the relations between brain development and cognitive development. A special focus of the lab is to investigate how brain development, including changes in function and connectivity, relates to typical and atypical development of control, decision-making and self-regulation.

The lab has a strong focus on the fundamental changes in brain function that underlie our ability to anticipate, produce and evaluate complex decisions in daily life. In addition, the lab tries to delineate how, when and why brain development results in childhood disorders. Thus, our goals are to shed light not only on classic developmental questions related to mechanisms underlying developmental change, but also the pathogenesis of various developmental disorders.
